Kento Momota will not be able to defend the Singapore Open title he won last year after he was kicked off the Japan national team by Nippon Badminton Association (NBA) last Sunday by visiting an illegal casino.
So, without Kento Momota, does that mean it's easier to win the Singapore Open? That won't be the case this year, according to World No. 1 Chen Long of China.
"Countries such as Denmark and Indonesia also have very good players," said Chen."You can't say the tournament will become easier just because one other competitor couldn't make it to the tournament," added Chen.
Two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan who is also playing in the OUE Singapore Open, insisted that the competition remained stiff with strong challenges coming from other nations.
When answering the media about winning his third gold at the Rio Olympics in August, he said he won't let pressure get to him and will focus on playing at his best.
"I am not worry about statistics or chances of winning gold at the Rio Olympics. I just want to take it one game at a time and play my best in every game," said Lin.
